About this course
Designed to provide all candidates with the necessary skills, techniques and a good understanding of approaches to first aid and how to administer safe and effective First Aid in emergency incidents in offshore working situations.
Learn how to identify minor illnesses and injuries and how to carry out lifesaving techniques.
What experience / qualifications do I need to book a place?
You must be 18 or over.
There are no academic or technical pre-requisites for attendance on this course, but all candidates will be required to present the following:
- A current medical fit to work certificate
- Valid photographic ID such as a Passport or Driving License
Course Structure
What will I learn?
Theory
Importance and Legislation
Basic human anatomy
Incident management
Life-saving first aid
Use of AEDs
Normal first aid
Practical
Life-saving techniques
Correct use of AEDs
Other first aid techniques
Practical scenarios
What do I need to bring?
- Appropriate clothing to climb in (we advise loose clothing which does not hinder your movement)
- Appropriate clothing for the weather conditions (Parts of the training may take place outside)
- Safety footwear
- Reading glasses if required for any theory work

GWO FIRST AID REFRESHER
The GWO BST/BSTR certificates must be renewed before the end of the validity period. If a certificate is expired, the Delegate will need to complete the full Basic Safety Training again.
A certificate can be renewed up to two months prior to expiry and maintain the original certification date. If a certificate is renewed more than two months before expiry it must carry the new date of certification

The refresher course provides delegates the opportunity to build on a range of important skills and tools obtained during their previous GWO First Aid Safety Training
