GWO Fire Awareness Training & Refresher

Individuals working in an environment with an increased risk of fire

Anybody seeking to learn basic fire-fighting skills

About this course

This course has been designed to promote fire awareness, its dangers, and how to counteract them by using safe practices, while learning how to operate the equipment used for small fire fighting.

What experience / qualifications do I need to book a place?

You must be 18 or over.

There are no academic or technical pre-requisites for attendance on this course, but all candidates will be required to present the following:

  • A current medical fit to work certificate
  • Valid photographic ID such as a Passport or Driving License

Types of causes of fire

Signs of fire

Appropriate emergency action

Practical

Safe approach procedures

Use of carbon dioxide fire extinguisher

Use of dry powder extinguisher

Safe retreat

What do I need to bring?

  • You must be wearing trousers to participate in the practical element of this course.
  • Shorts are not permitted
  • Reading glasses if required for any theory work

GWO FIRE AWARENESS REFRESHER

The GWO BST/BSTR certificates must be renewed before the end of the validity period. If a certificate is expired, the Delegate will need to complete the full Basic Safety Training again.

A certificate can be renewed up to two months prior to expiry and maintain the original certification date. If a certificate is renewed more than two months before expiry it must carry the new date of certification

The refresher course provides delegates the opportunity to build on a range of important skills and tools obtained during their previous GWO Fire Awareness Safety Training
