Lead Mechanical Engineer -
Offshore OMPA support and supply the highest quality workforce for both the onshore and offshore operations of the renewables, oil & gas, telecommunications and marine industries.
We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our client in the technology industry;
Start Date: July 2026
Duration: Permanent, onsite
Location: London, UK
Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 + package
Responsibilities
– Lead the definition of mechanical requirements, tolerances, repeatability targets, and verification methods
– Develop test methods, rigs, and validation approaches for motion, positioning, and repeatability performance
– Reduce technical risk in mechanical interfaces, alignment, and system-level integration
– Support early integration of drive systems, identifying and resolving mechanical risks through structured testing and iteration
– Develop and improve life-test methodologies to evaluate long-term mechanical behaviour and reliability
– Review mechanical designs, test plans, and verification evidence to ensure technical robustness and quality
– Provide technical guidance and direction to engineers without direct line management responsibility
– Collaborate across mechanical, mechatronics, and electronics teams to support full system integration
Requirements:
– Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
– Approximately 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering or precision hardware development
– Proven experience leading mechanical systems or subsystem delivery
– Strong background in mechanical system integration (beyond component-level design)
– Experience defining requirements, tolerances, repeatability targets, and verification strategies
– Experience establishing quality and performance standards for mechanical systems
– Hands-on experience with building, testing, debugging, and iterating mechanical hardware
– Understanding of mechanical failure modes such as wear, alignment, friction, tension, and material handling issues
– Experience working within cross-functional engineering teams during system integration
– Strong documentation skills for requirements, test methods, risks, and engineering decisions
– Exposure to manufacturing environments, supplier interaction, or production-focused design constraints
– Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical direction
Desirable Experience
– Experience working with thin materials, films, tapes, webs, or similar mechanically sensitive media
– Background in precision mechanics, motion systems, alignment, or positioning systems
– Experience supporting hardware through EVT, DVT, PVT, and production launch phases
– Experience in reliability engineering, verification leadership, or quality assurance for mechanical systems
– Familiarity with mechatronics, electronics, firmware, or control systems collaboration in integrated products
