End of Year address by the Managing Director of Offshore Marine People & Academy
Greatness comes by doing a few small and smart things each and every day. Comes from taking little steps, consistently. Comes from making a few small chips against everything in your professional and personal life that is ordinary, so that a day eventually arrives when all that’s left is The Extraordinary. Robin S. Sharma
This was a great year as the whole industry returned to a new high level of offshore and onshore working. I would like to say it was localised, but it was an international playing field, with regions competing with regions. Each project, each client, each region, was different as it was released from the confines of the Covid-19 pandemic. The movement of people was eased, and our guys and girls got back to work with plane tickets in hand.
Our focus is to provide an exceptional service to our clients and our contractors, so the development and growth of our team was important to support and sustain this business. It is a 360-degree approach to supply the correct people to our clients and to ensure all are well supported from initial contact to project end. As this has become a very transaction industry, it is easy to forget that importance of looking after people. Our group company, Offshore Marine Management Holdings, has therefore begun a little initiative to protect and raise awareness on mental health with #unwindyourmind whereby every couple of weeks a series of wellbeing quotes and phrases based on helping one’s mental health will be featured on our LinkedIn pages.
Within the academy, our quality online training courses have enhanced many people’s careers and lives. The online learning element has suited delegates as it allows them to complete the course at a time and place convenient to them. We will look toward developing more knowledge-based courses for the specialised areas of the offshore industry and diversify into other markets of interest.
Our Offshore Client Representative training course is growing in recognition with career driven offshore professionals worldwide now having access to this course through our virtual classroom which offers real-time training with our offshore experienced trainer. Over 100+ candidates this year have completed the course and we are looking to increase client uptake next year as offshore projects grow and the complexity of work increases – having a trained and skilled client rep being the offshore eyes and ears for the client is paramount for a successful project.
Our future years look towards a steady and sustainable growth to the business where we continue to focus on offering a high-quality service to our clients and contractors. We will focus over the next 12 months on the development of young talent and training to ensure all new vessels and offshore assets are well operated by trained young professionals. Within OMPA we will focus on our work-life balance and the development of our professionals to ensure they care for each project in a fun and creative environment whilst delivering a 24-7 service. So much of our time is spent at work, we must try to make that time engaging, by creating an enjoyable workplace culture.
People matter. They are not assets but people with lives and the work life balance does extend beyond the shore to the contractors who sacrifice a lot to ensure the industry moves forward. We must always remember this.
I wish good health and success to all our clients, contractors, suppliers, and their families. I look forward to the future challenges and success of this business and regaining our market position.
