End of Year address by the Managing Director of Offshore Marine People & Academy

“Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare.”
– Patrick Lencioni

2023 has been a very interesting year in the offshore space. The industry is like a puzzle with so many pieces moving around, making it tricky to predict and plan strategies that go beyond a short timeframe.

We’ve seen a new level of collaboration between offshore and onshore work, and the international competition is heating up with new countries joining the game. Finding and quickly boosting the experience of people in the offshore renewable sector has been a challenge but something we are whole heartedly committed to.

Our main focus is on giving top-notch service to our clients and contractors. Growing our team is key to supporting and sustaining our business. We take a full-circle approach, making sure everyone is well-supported from the first contact to the end of a project. In an industry that’s all about transactions, it’s easy to forget the importance of taking care of people.

More travel is on the horizon, especially with the growing markets in the USA, Asia and Australia and our team are looking forward to another year of exciting destinations in 2024. Europe is still a big player, and South America is determined in its contributions to the industry. We’re keeping our doors open to all international opportunities.

Our #unwindyourmind mental health awareness program within our group of companies is ongoing, and we’re planning to put it at the forefront of our services along with safety. We’re exploring more active programs to let people know they’re not alone in their daily struggles and to raise awareness among colleagues. Please follow our LinkedIn pages for updates, and feel free to comment with your thoughts.

Within the Academy, our quality online training courses will continue to grow with new courses planned. We want our people to be in the know, especially with the challenge of finding available contractors and newcomers with different skills. Our knowledge-based training on our user-friendly platform lets everyone learn at their own pace.

Our Offshore Client Representative training course is gaining recognition with career driven offshore professionals worldwide now having access to this course through our virtual classroom. It gives offshore professionals a standardized knowledge base, making it tailor-made for clients’ windfarm projects.

Looking forward, we’re expecting some unsteady but sustainable growth. The rising costs of building windfarms are a challenge, but if the strategy shifts from clients to the supply chain, we might steady the ship. The days of a free market with unlimited assets are gone, but there’s still a solid international market.

At OMPA, our team and services are growing. We’re focusing on work-life balance and developing our professionals in a fun and creative environment whilst delivering a 24-7 service.

People matter. Remembering that people are more than just assets, we’re extending our commitment to work-life balance to our contractors who sacrifice a lot to keep the industry moving forward.

I wish good health and success to all our clients, contractors, suppliers, and their families. I look forward to the future challenges and success of this business and strengthening our market position.

Rob Grimmond, Managing Director OMPA.
